SlumDog Millionaire Rock at TOp in the Oscar Awards

Slumdog Millionaire almost singlehandedly swept the 81st Annual Academy Awards this time around with 8 OSCARS in major categories like Best Director, Best Film, Best Original Score, Cinematography, Film editing, Original Score, Original Song, Sound mixing and Best Adapted screenplay Out of 10 Possible nominations it has got.

It was a day that belonged to the Team of Slumdog Millionaire as it was evident when Christian Colosan the producer of the movie invited all the crew Members on stage while accepting the award for The Best Film.

Kate Winslet Won the Oscar for Best Actress for her role in the film “The Reader”, while Sean Penn won the Oscar for the Best Actor for his role in the film “Milk” and Penelope Cruz did the same for her role in “Vicki Cristina Barcelona".

'Slumdog Millionaire' Sweeps The 81st Oscar Awards With 8 Awards

They 81st annual Academy Awards were predictable, sure, but still, the new format was definitely engaging and entertaining.

As expected "Slumdog Millionaire" was the night's big winner taking eight of its ten nominations including Best Picture, and Best Director for Danny Boyle. In what was considered an upset to some Sean Penn, not Mickey Rourke took the Best Actor prize for his lead role in "Milk." Kate Winslet took her early lifetime achievement award for her role in the unremarkable "The Reader" (as many have already griped, the award should have went for her turn in "Revolutionary Road") and Penelope Cruz took the Best Supporting Actress trophy for her role in "Vicky Cristina Barcelona." Another non-shocker, but very deserving award went to Heath Ledger for his spectacular turn in "The Dark Knight" as the chaotic Joker.

Although it lead with the most nominations (12) "The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button," only took 3 awards, relegated only to the technical award categories. Nominated 8 times,"The Dark Knight," took two awards including Best Sound Editing. Also tied with two awards was "Milk," which also won the Best Original Screenplay award for writer Dustin Lance Black.

Rajani Kanth while speaking said something about Mohan Babu without telling his name.Rajnikant recalled one funny incident during the launch of his latest movie at Hitex. “During the period of 1977 and 78, I was doing films both in Telugu and Tamil playing bit roles. Then K Balachander asked me to focus on one film industry rather than sailing in two boats at same time. I was confused as to which industry to choose. One of my close friend came to my rescue and suggested that I should settle in Tamil film industry and warned me that Telugu film industry was full of politics. I did what he said. Probably he felt I was his competition.
He further revealed that he lost 1.5 acres of land in Jubilee Hills. “I was acting in Apoorva Sahodarulu and the producers offered me 1.5 acres of land in Jubilee Hills as part of my remuneration. One day, Mohan Babu came to me and childed me for taking that barren land. He asked me to refuse to own the land and instead made me to take money from them. Whenever I come to Hyderabad and pass through Jubilee Hills, I shut my eye as my heart cries in grief,” he laughed.

This is the shooting scene of Ravi Teja latest movie which is having its shooting on the river banks of Godavari at Purushottam Patnam near Rajamundry. The scene is that Anushka has to push Ravi Teja and Sunil look alikes or dupes into the river. Anushka pushed them, till then it was ok.
Sunil dupe whose name was Ramesh swam back to the shore but Ravi Teja dupe whose name was Mahendra didn’t turn up. He was washed out by Godavari river and his body was not found. Here started problem. The whole unit left the shooting spot without making much noise.
But the locals didn’t forget the scene that easily. They complained at the local police station and filed a case against Anushka for murdering a guy. The case was accepted by the Police after a lot of protest from the local people.
The story of the unit people is different. They say that Anushka asked both the dupes whether they new swimming or not before the shot. Both said yes but in reality only Sunil dupe knew swimming but not Ravi Teja dupe.
This new movie has Ravi Teja and Anushka in the lead and is being directed by Uday Shankar and is being produced by Suresh Productions banner.
Ravi Teja dupe Mahendra shifted with his family from Rajasthan a few years back and is a very poor person. The loss which his family is suffering is irreversible. We convey deepest condolences to the family of Mahender.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Hillary Rodham Clinton declared Wednesday that her primary victories in Ohio, Texas and Rhode Island had reordered the Democratic presidential race in her favor. A resilient Barack Obama countered with fresh pledges of support from superdelegates and said his lead remained intact.
One day after his worst showing in a month, Obama blamed negative attacks by the former first lady for his defeats and quickly made good on a promise to sharpen his criticism of her.But there was no disputing he had missed a chance to drive her from the race. Or that in contrast to the Republicans, who have settled on Arizona Sen. John McCain as their nominee, the Democrats face the prospect of a potentially divisive campaign lasting deep into spring."I'm concerned about unity.
That's the major reason I've stayed out of this," said Sen. Bob Casey of Pennsylvania, who is neutral. "The longer this campaign goes on, the more difficult it will be to unify and heal."Returns from Texas caucuses showed Obama reclaiming some of the ground in the delegate competition that he lost Tuesday night as Clinton's victories piled up.
Overall, she showed a gain of 12 delegates for the contests on the ballot, according to The Associated Press count, with another dozen to be awarded. In all 370 were at stake. Texas Democrats were still counting ballots from the Tuesday night caucuses.In addition, Obama gained endorsements from superdelegates in Georgia, Vermont, Ohio, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
Clinton picked up two superdelegates during the day but lost one, for a gain of one.Obama's overall delegate lead stood at 1,567 to 1,462 as the rivals looked ahead to the final dozen contests on the calendar. It takes 2,025 to win the nomination.

ATHENS, Greece (March 5) - Road construction on the western Greek island of Lefkada has uncovered and partially destroyed an important tomb with artifacts dating back more than 3,000 years, officials said on Wednesday.

ArchaeologicalDiscoveries

In December, archaeologists said they found the first known surviving Roman throne in the ruins of Herculaneum, which was buried under hot ash and lava when Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 A.D.

The find is a miniature version of the large, opulent tombs built by the rulers of Greece during the Mycenaean era, which ended around 1100 B.C. Although dozens have been found in the mainland and on Crete, the underground, beehive-shaped monuments are very rare in the western Ionian Sea islands, and previously unknown on Lefkada.The discovery could fuel debate on a major prehistoric puzzle - where the homeland of Homer's legendary hero Odysseus was located."This is a very important find for the area, because until now we had next to no evidence on Mycenaean presence on Lefkada," excavator Maria Stavropoulou-Gatsi told The Associated Press.Stavropoulou-Gatsi said the tomb was unearthed about a month ago by a bulldozer, during road construction work."Unfortunately, the driver caused significant damage," she said.She said the tomb contained several human skeletons, as well as smashed pottery, two seal stones, beads made of semiprecious stones, copper implements and clay loom weights. It appeared to have been plundered during antiquity.

With a nine-foot diameter, the tomb is very small compared to others, such as the Tomb of Atreus in Mycenae, which was more than 46 feet across and built of stones weighing up to 120 tons.But it could revive scholarly debate on the location of Odysseus' Ithaca mentioned in Homer's poems - which are believed to be loosely based on Mycenaean-era events. While the nearby island of Ithaki is generally identified as the hero's kingdom, other theories have proposed Lefkada or neighboring Kefallonia.Stavropoulou-Gatsi said the discovery might cause excitement on Lefkada but it was too soon for any speculation on Odysseus."I think it is much too early to engage in such discussion. The location of Homer's Ithaca is a very complex issue," she said.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Hillary Clinton and rival Barack Obama are running neck-and-neck in Ohio and Texas one day before their crucial Democratic presidential showdowns, according to a Reuters/C-SPAN/Houston Chronicle poll released on Monday.
Clinton, fighting to save her presidential bid after 11 straight wins by Obama, desperately needs victories in the big-state battles to keep her candidacy alive and face the Republican candidate in the November election.
Obama, an Illinois senator, has a slim advantage on Clinton in both states, although the leads are within the poll's margin of error of just under 4 percentage points.
Obama leads 47 percent to 44 percent in Texas, as Clinton gained 1 point overnight in the polling conducted by Zogby International. He leads 47 percent to 45 percent in Ohio, a turnaround from Clinton's 1-point advantage on Sunday.
Obama has wiped out big leads in the last two weeks in both states for Clinton, a New York senator and former first lady, but in the final days of the race neither candidate has managed dramatic shifts.
"There are no big movements, no great swings, these are just very tight races," pollster John Zogby said. "At least for now it doesn't look like either one of them is going to be winning in a blow-out."
Republican front-runner McCain, however, appears headed to easy victories in both states. He has big double-digit leads over his last major rival, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.
McCain, an Arizona senator, is moving closer to clinching the Republican presidential nomination and has built an insurmountable lead in delegates, who will choose the nominee at the party's September convention.

In about two hours of nimble-footed driving mainly to the off side, interspersed with soft on-side strokes, Sachin Tendulkar led a most solid start from India in the second CB Series final in Brisbane. Following on from the excellence shown in Sydney, Tendulkar, with a well-paced half-century, added 94 with Robin Uthappa, in his longest stay at the crease all series, and promised plenty more as India reached the halfway mark on 1 for 121.

India were steady during the Powerplays, scoring 36, 30 and 26 in three blocks, but made their best start of the tournament. Within a couple overs it was evident this was an easy-paced surface, and a slip was taken out to accommodate another man on the leg side as Tendulkar and Uthappa dabbed a few easy singles. The ball didn't speed away to the ropes when the batsmen leaned into their drives and so they smartly adjusted gears, keeping the outfielders busy through a mixture of full-faced dabs to third man and flicks to deep square leg.

Lured forward by Brett Lee's near-perfect length and immaculate seam position on a couple occasions, Tendulkar preferred getting across and trying to work the ball into the gaps. Only once did Lee offer width and Tendulkar promptly tapped him over backward point for four.

Tendulkar had a life on 7 when Ricky Ponting dropped a hard reflex catch at short cover. An utterly mistimed pull attempt off Nathan Bracken was the first sign of frustration but he quickly regained composure and decided to target Stuart Clark, who replaced Brad Hogg in the XI. A punched on-drive, the firmest of flat-batted swats past a very straight mid-on and an attractive offdrive put him into his zone and with Mitchell Johnson unable to locate his radar India had successfully gnawed away at Australia's attack. His fifty came up from his 70th delivery.

While Tendulkar took his time to get started, Uthappa did enough to ensure India didn't slag. His footwork was efficient and his ability to keep rotate the strike, without undue risk, was clinical. Having quickly realized that the outfield was a touch slow, Uthappa sensibly fell back on his aptitude to find the gaps.

Neither of Australia's pace trio managed a wicket at the SCG at here it was the replacement, Clark, who struck first to get rid of Uthappa. Looking to go over the infield, Uthappa could only spoon a catch to mid-off for 30 from 49 balls. It was an uncharacteristic innings but worth plenty in the context of the situation.

Gautam Gambhir, the leading run-scorer of the tournament, opened up with confident drives to maintain India's momentum. The last time Australia surrendered back-to-back finals was 1983-84 and 1984-85, against West Indies, and a loss today would be a chastening blow.
